Paybacks are a Bitch

Todd went home and packed some things. He knew he couldn't stay here anymore. He put his most important valuables in his pick-up truck and drove it to a secured parking lot in downtown Chicago. He paid the monthly bill and took a taxi back for the Buick. He locked his front door and put the key under a flower pot, by the garage.
He emptied his bank account, only twenty-five hundred dollars. He realized now that he could never go back to work and that this was the last of his money. Being a man on the run now, was going to be tough. He had no resources for this sort of thing.
He said goodbye to Paddock Lake, Wisconsin and hello to Chicago. This would be his home now, for the rest of his life, however long that may be. He thought about the mistake he made, when he forgot to wear his gloves, that fateful day in that alley.
It was dark out now and Todd wondered where he was going to sleep. He drove over to Rod Appletons house and parked across the street. This was as good a place as any. Todd turned the radio on softly and stretched out on the front seat. It was only nine pm. He fell asleep.
About eleven pm, he woke to the sound of car doors slamming and people laughing.
"See you later, Rod." Someone said to a man on the porch, as he got in his car.
Rod waved goodbye to his friends, as they drove away. "Later Bob. Thanks for coming." He looked happy to have some company. Too happy. This sort of scum doesn't deserve to enjoy life.
As soon as the car took off, Todd rang the doorbell. Rod opened it and said "what, did you forget something." He was still smiling, until he realized it wasn't his friends.
Todd said "Bob told me to give you this" and Todd smiled and reached in his pocket as if he had a nice surprise. "Wait. Before I show you, I need to be sure. Are you Rod Appleton?"
Rod answered. "Yes." He looked excited. "What is it? If I know Bobby, I'll bet it's money. He is always giving me money."
Todd said "let me see your id. I need to be sure, because this is very valuable."
Rod giggled and said "ok, come on in." And he ran to another room and quickly returned with a wallet in his hand.
Todd wanted to be sure they were alone. "Who else is here? They will want to see this."
Rod said "no, I live here alone. What is it? Here look, see? I'm Rod."
Todd thought this was too perfect. Does it sometimes work out this great? "Ok, close your eyes."
Rod closed his eyes, still smiling ear to ear.
Todd thought what an idiot this guy was. He pulled out a knife and quickly stabbed him in the thigh!
Rod fell to the floor, holding his leg and crying like a baby. "Why'd you do that?"
"I hear rumors that you like to rape women and cut them up." Todd stabbed him in the other leg. "It's time to confess your sins. This is judgement day. I am the grim reaper."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Rod said.
Todd held the knife up, ready to plunge and asked him "don't you want to die with a clear conscience?"
"If you're talking about that black bitch on the south side, she was a liar. I never raped her. That was a case of mistaken identity."
Todd thought for a second. Luther was white. Maybe he had a black wife, he never said what color she was. But he did say he lived right down the street from Rod. "I'm talking about all of them. How many was there Rod?"
   "None, I swear."
"What about the lady right down the block?" Todd asked him.
   "She was lying too."
"What about the others, Rod? This is your last chance to tell the truth. I am going to kill you anyway. I just thought you might want to confess your sins before you die." Todd was wondering if it was true. He supposed it was possible that two women lied. Then he remembered Luther. That couldn't be a lie.
As Todd was losing his will to kill this guy and starting to believe that maybe he was a good guy after all, Rod spoke. "How could you possibly know all this? Who are you?"
