Todd ran around the block and snuck up to Franks passenger door. He
knocked on the window.
Frank rolled down the passenger window and said "I
can't open the door, because the light will come on. What do you want?"
Todd
spoke softly. "I need to know for sure. Is Angel in that car?"
"Yeah.
I saw him with my own eyes. I'm sure he's in there. He has a white hat on and a goatee. He's
sitting in the passenger seat, right now."
"Ok. Thanks Frank."
And Todd snuck away into the shadows.
As soon as Todd stepped into a dark
walkway, he saw a police car pull up next to Angel. Angel rolled down his window and talked
to him for a few seconds. Todd noticed one cop, by himself, in the car. Then he remembered
what Angel said, before. He said Todd had killed his brother. But when Todd asked if he killed
his brother, the cop, Angel didn't answer. Maybe that was a different brother and this was
another brother, the cop.
Todd thought about tossing a grenade under Angels
car and ending it, right now. But then the brother would start something. And he would have
the right to kill Todd, because he's a cop and Todd is a wanted fugitive. He could call for
backup and then this place would be swarming with cops.
Todd was cutting through
somebody's backyard, when he saw a chain laying there. He took a few steps past it and then
turned around to look at it. This gave him an idea. He could sneak up, behind Angels car and
chain it to the car behind it. He grabbed the chain and worked his way toward Angels car.
He made it to the car directly behind Angels, when the police car pulled up again.
He drove right past Todd and stopped by Angels window again, Todd thought. But then he backed
up and looked directly at Todd!
Todd jumped up and ran as fast as he could.
As he did, he heard "hold it, police!" Then gunshots! Todd zigged and zagged. Then
he jumped behind a porch. He heard footsteps running toward him and he was trapped! He grabbed
this spot because it was the closest thing to cover him from the bullets, but it was no use
if they ran up to him. And feet were coming fast. Todd jumped up to run, but there were too
many shots, in rapid succession and at the same time. They were all shooting at him.
He pulled out a grenade and tossed it toward them. He heard someone yell "grenade!"
And then, boom! He took off running, as shrapnel fell. It was raining hard on him as he cut
left and right to avoid gunfire, that never fired. He turned a corner into a yard and jumped
a fence to the next yard, then another. He came out onto the sidewalk behind them now. He saw
one man laying dead and he could see a police officer, ducked behind a parked car, with gun
pointing at the spot where Todd was.
Todd was in a perfect position to toss
a grenade at Angels brother, the cop. So he did. He pulled the pin, let the handle go and counted
to three. then he tossed it and dove for cover. Before he even hit the ground it exploded!
He felt shrapnel hit him on the left leg, as he dove behind a concrete porch. It hurt and it
was probably bleeding now, but that would have to wait. He covered his head as shrapnel fell
all around.
He heard footsteps running through the next yard over and stepped
up to see two men. One had a white hat and a goatee! Todd didn't notice the other, because
he didn't count. He wanted Angel so bad, that was all he thought about now. He pulled a grenade
and tossed it over a garage, to the spot they were running toward.
Suddenly
they ran into the yard Todd was in and looked right at him! Then, boom! The grenade went off.
Todd lunged at them, landing a knife into the chest of the other guy.
Angel
fired his gun as fast as he could. Emptying it into his friends back and hitting Todd in the
left shoulder too.
Todd fell to the ground with a man on top of him, as Angel
ran up, screaming "I'm gonna kill you, mother fucker!"
Angel was
pulling out another gun, when Todd somehow scrambled to his feet and dove on Angel. Angel stepped
back and Todds knife missed. He grabbed Todds knife hand and both men were holding the knife
with four hands, fighting for it. Todd heard footsteps running toward him, but couldn't take
his eyes of the task at hand.
As the footsteps got closer, Todd had to give
it up. Without looking, he let go of the knife and shoved Angel away and took off running.
He jumped the first fence to his left as he heard a gunshot. Just one. Then a voice.
"I got him Todd! I got him!" Todd looked back and saw Frank, with a shotgun in his
hand. What a relief. He jumped back over the fence and picked up his knife.
