Luther opened the door and laughed. "Todd. We saw it on the news.
That was funny, man. You blew the shit out of those guys."
Todd smiled
a little, then turned blank. "Yeah. But now I still have the problem with the law. I think
I'm going to go to Mexico."
Luther looked at Betty and then she said "Let
me tell him. Todd, we have some good news for you. We got a mortgage on the house and we can
pay you in full!"
Todd smiled a big one. "Really? How much?"
Luther broke in. "We got sixty-five thousand. You just tell us what we owe
you."
Todd did some math out loud. "Well, it's really worth sixty-five,
but I originally said sixty. You gave me about seven already, so I think you owe me fifty-three,
but since you guys have been such good friends, I'd happily take for forty-five."
Luther said "let me get my checkbook." He scratched in it for a few seconds and handed
Todd a check. "Here. I think that's fair.
Todd looked at it and saw fifty
thousand. He shook Luthers and Bettys hands and said good-bye.
As he was walking
out the door, Luther said "one more thing. My sister is a travel agent. I could call her
and make arrangements for you to travel in another name, if you want."
Todd smiled. "I hear Mexico's nice this time of year. And I always wanted to learn how
to speak Spanish.
