It's Time

Todd watched the news again that night. It was the same old story. A murder on the south side of Chicago. A mugging on the north side. A kid gets hit by a stray bullet on the west side. Somebody should really do something about all this scum. But who? And then it hits him. He is the one. Nobody else is going to do anything. And he probably isn't going to live too long anyway. He has nothing to lose. And a safer world to leave as his legacy.
But how? Where? He got it. All he needed was a disguise. He didn't want anyone to figure out that it was him, so he took a long drive, just to buy his disguise. He went to St. Paul, Minnesota. He walked into a wig store and bought a Santa Claus beard and hair. He even bought a Santa Claus suit, just so they wouldn't catch on.
Then, he went to a second hand store and bought some old clothes, baggy clothes and two identical thick leather jackets that were out of style. He even bought some women's clothes and some make-up. He went back to his car and dressed in the women's clothes. Then he found a martial arts store and bought some weapons. A few knives, some brass knuckles, a can of mace, a few pairs of leather gloves, nun-chucks and even a sword. He told the storekeeper that he was buying gifts for his martial arts classmates. Then he saw the jackpot hanging on the wall. It was a cane that concealed a sword.
He changed back into some of his own clothes and went to a huge hardware store. There, he bought some steel pipes and a few sheets of sheet metal.
He went to an army surplus store and bought two bullet proof vests. He also bought some boots and some hunting clothes with lots of pockets. He grabbed an army helmet and even a canteen, though he wasn't sure why he would need a canteen.
It was a long drive back home. As soon as he arrived, he went to work building his outfit. He was too exited to sleep. After such a long drive and it was late at night too. But that didn't stop him. He was motivated.
He tried on a bullet proof vest. He took his saws-all and cut the other vest up into several pieces, which he sewed on to the good vest. He made a better vest is what he did. He made a flap that hung down to protect his privates. And he sewed the cut out collar onto the collar of the complete one. That way, it was more like a turtle-neck and would protect his neck a little better. He sewed two little squares onto the palms of his leather gloves. He figured he could block a bullet by hand if he had to.
Then he went to work on the jacket. He cut out some sheet metal pieces and duct taped them on the sides of the upper arms of the leather jacket. He also taped a piece on each forearm, so that he could block a swinging bat or whatever. He ripped out the lining on the other matching jacket and sewed the two jackets together. Now, it looked like one thick, warm jacket.
He took the army field pants and duct taped some pieces of sheet metal inside, so that it wouldn't show. Each leg, he put a piece of sheet metal on the shins and another piece on the thighs. He sewed a piece of the bullet-proof vest onto the seat of the pants too.
He made a few more adjustments and then he tried it all on. He made some more adjustments and then he looked in the mirror. He looked huge. The big Santa Claus wig hid the helmet pretty good, but it looked like he had a big head. He jumped around a little, acting like he was fighting and the helmet fell off, with the wig. He put it back on and tied a string on it, so that wouldn't happen again. Then he did some somersaults to see how it felt. Not bad, he thought.
He felt invincible. He hit himself with a broom stick and he didn't feel a thing. He practiced kicking and then he knew he was ready.
