is written by a professional driver with over 2,000,000 safe driving miles logged.
Featuring articles on; *
rush hour driving, *how to get your CDL,
*an overview of the job market for drivers,
*climbing the trucking ladder, *attitude is aptitude, *coping
with road rage, * timing traffic lights, *doing
the math
and many other things that many inexperienced drivers just don't
think about
(yet)!
Our world is getting more and more complicated every day, and driving
is too. We need to be better educated to survive and thrive.
Todays traffic in and around any city is so frustrating because of the
drivers that don't know these things (yet). Let's not wait until they get twenty years
experience
and figure it out for themselves, let's tell them today so they can be a better driver
now!
For example; many drivers tailgate during rush hour because they believe
they will get there sooner. They feel as though they are in line, like at the supermarket
and
someone is cutting in line in front of them. And they don't want to let someone cut
in, because
they believe it will slow them down. They don't even consider the fact that this car
was probably
going to turn anyway. The truth is that you are not in line because everybody is going
to a
different destination. And ahead of you for miles and miles, cars and trucks are cutting
in
and out, and it's not slowing you down. That's just the flow of traffic, when you look
at the
big picture.
Seeing the big picture is impossible when you're tailgating. All you
can see is a back door.
The fact is, about rush hour driving, that you should always leave enough
room in front of your vehicle for others to merge into. Enough room in fact, that when
someone
cuts in front of you, it doesn't even slow you down. You see, it's the tailgaters that
cause
traffic to stop.
The trick is not to stop. When you stop, you make others stop (especially
the tailgaters). If everyone around you was keeping a safe following distance, traffic
would
never stop.
Any driver with a few years experience and a little common sense knows
this. But, some people are slow learners and some people never get it. It's up to us
to teach
them.
Buy a copy of The Big City Driver for all of
your drivers. Then, have
a meeting and talk about each page. By listening to your drivers argue and discuss
these articles,
you can determine who gets it and who doesn't. Also, who is capable of learning and
who is
too hard headed to learn.
The Big City Driver makes
many important points in rapid succession and
can blow right by someone who reads it too quickly (information overload). For best
results,
have a meeting and discuss each point. Then everyone gets it and remembers.
Good drivers need confirmation, and bad drivers need to wake up. |
